Pastor
Meet Pastor Brett
It is my joy and privilege to serve as pastor of Aberdeen Baptist Church and to minister to the people of Pueblo, Colorado. My wife, Stephenie, and I are grateful to call Pueblo home as we raise our family here in the Aberdeen neighborhood and seek to faithfully serve Christ alongside this church family.
Stephenie has deep roots at Aberdeen Baptist Church. Years ago, when the church was still known as First Southern Baptist Church of Pueblo, her father was called to serve as Music Pastor. During that season, Stephenie came to saving faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized here among her church family. Because of that history, returning to Pueblo and serving at Aberdeen has been especially meaningful for our family.
My Testimony
Although I was raised in a Christian home and faithfully involved in church ministry growing up, I did not fully surrender my life to Christ until I was sixteen years old. God graciously opened my eyes to my sin and my desperate need for a Savior. Through repentance and faith, He showed me that only Jesus Christ could make me righteous before God and that Christ must truly be Lord of my life.
In July of 2007, while attending Student Life Camp in Wheaton, Illinois, the Lord radically changed my life through the power of His Spirit. About a year later, God began calling me into ministry. Though I wrestled with that calling at first, the Lord faithfully directed my steps and deepened my love for His Word and the preaching of Scripture.
Ministry & Calling
The Lord eventually led me to attend Christian university training in Michigan, where my foundation for preaching and teaching was further shaped by a commitment to God’s Word. Throughout my years in ministry, I have had the opportunity to serve in various churches and ministries as a youth minister, lay teacher, and pastor.
Before coming to Aberdeen Baptist Church, I served as senior pastor of a church in Peyton, Colorado. I have also served in young adult ministry leadership and youth ministry in Michigan.
At Aberdeen, I am passionate about faithfully preaching the Word of God week after week, shepherding the church well, and engaging the Pueblo community with the hope of the Gospel. Our desire is to see people transformed by the restoring love of Jesus Christ through faithful, Christ-centered ministry.
Family Life
I met my wife, Stephenie, in August of 2017, and it quickly became clear that God had brought us together. I proposed later that same year during Thanksgiving, and we were married in July of 2018.
Together we are thankful for the opportunity to raise our family in Pueblo and to serve alongside the people of Aberdeen Baptist Church.

Ministry Philosophy
I believe the church is called to faithfully preach God’s Word, exalt Christ, disciple believers, and proclaim the Gospel to the world. My desire in ministry is to preach Scripture clearly, shepherd people faithfully, and point others continually to the hope found in Jesus Christ alone.
Favorite Scripture Passage
Psalm 1:1–6 (ESV)
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night…”

Zachary Friberg
Director of Music Ministry
I am honored to serve our Aberdeen Baptist Church family through Music Ministry.
My wife, Erin, and I began attending Aberdeen together while dating in the spring of 2019, and became members of this church family that summer during our engagement. We were married here in November of 2019. What a privilege it is to raise our children among a church family so committed to exemplifying the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)!
I am the firstborn of a family of six (five boys and one more-than-able-to-hold-her-own sister), while Erin enjoyed the much less chaotic childhood of only having one younger brother. We have both called Pueblo home off and on since 2001. As a student, I pursued my musical training at Colorado State University-Pueblo, graduating with my degree in Music Performance. Since 2011, I have worked as Music Director for the Pueblo Children’s Chorale, while Erin has served our community as a Hospice Nurse for nearly ten years.
We both were raised in a church-attending, Christian homes. Erin’s grandfather was a Colorado Baptist minister, and my parents - both the children of overseas missionaries - kept my siblings and I active in our Biblical training through participation in the AWANA program. As is so true for many, though, a heritage of faith does not automatically grant faith. I struggled in my teenage years and through my 20’s to truly understand how to live out my faith beyond the head knowledge and surface-level “do’s & don’ts” that provide such uncertain footing in the storms of life. Knowing and believing are two entirely different things.
For myself, it was not until the course of my life to that point shipwrecked into divorce in 2018 that I truly began to realize what it means to surrender and believe that Christ is my “Sure and Steady Anchor in the fury of the storm”. For Erin, it was the experience of being a divorced, single mother working through nursing school that brought her back to the “Streams of mercy, never ceasing”. The church family we found here at Aberdeen was used greatly by God to bring additional healing and growth to our walks of faith so that we can proclaim together “Whatever our lot, He has taught us to say, It is well, it is well with my soul”.
Since stepping into the role of Director of Music Ministry in 2023, it has been my joy to lead our church family in singing and proclaiming the Goodness of God on a weekly basis. It is my conviction that the hymns and songs we sing in our worship service should build up and inspire us with wonder at the Character and Majesty of God Almighty, and the incredible work of His Son, our Savior Jesus. To that end, during our time of worship together through song here at Aberdeen Baptist Church, we sing hymns drawn from both the Baptist Hymnal (2008) and the new Sing! Hymnal from Crossway. We lift our voices together through congregational singing that results in the congregation taking on the role of choir as we join the song of the ages to offer praise to God Most High and to the Lamb Who Alone Is Worthy. It is our desire that “whatever [we] do, in word or deed, [we] do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus - giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)
For myself, for Erin, and for our six growing children, Aberdeen Baptist Church has been a blessed haven to experience the Restoring Love of Jesus.
Favorite Scripture Passage:
1 Timothy 1:15-17 (ESV)
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
