Brett Lutz
Pastor
It is my pleasure to be serving Aberdeen Baptist Church as their senior pastor and to be serving the greater Pueblo community.
My wife and I, along with our small, but hopefully growing family are excited to now be living in Pueblo, as community members and residents of the Aberdeen neighborhood. My wife, Stephenie, has strong connections to Pueblo. Not only did she grow up in the Pueblo area, graduate from Pueblo West High School, but was a member of Aberdeen Baptist Church back when it used to be The First Southern Baptist Church of Pueblo. Aberdeen, then FSBC of Pueblo, called Stephenie's father to come and serve as Music Pastor in 1997. They moved from Southeast Texas to Pueblo, Colorado. They spent several years with Aberdeen, until the Lord called my father-in-law to his next ministry. While a part of Aberdeen, Stephenie felt God's hand on her life and surrendered her life, completely, to God through faith in Jesus Christ and was then baptized in front of her church family, Aberdeen, shortly there after.
I am, because of this history and existing partnership in the Gospel message, excited to be serving as Aberdeen's pastor and bringing my wife home to a church she loved from a young age. We look forward to raising our family in Pueblo and with Aberdeen Baptist Church.
I am thrilled to be able to not only share the Word of God, week in and week out, from the pulpit, but looking forward to engaging the community of Aberdeen and the greater city of Pueblo for the Gospel Kingdom.
A bit about me:
I am one of 12 kids. That's right, 12! I have 9 brothers and 2 sisters. I fall almost in the middle of the family as the seventh. My parents had 9 boys before the first girl.
Though having been raised in a Christian home, by wonderful parents and being active in the church ministry and sitting under my dad's leadership as youth pastor and senior pastor, I did not surrender my life to God until the age of 16. But once I realized just how much of a sinner I was and how much I desperately needed a Savior, God brought me to the Throne of Grace in repentance and made me realize only Jesus Christ could make me righteous before Him and Christ needed to be Lord and Savior of my life.
By the power of the Spirit of God, I surrendered completely to God in July of 2007 while at a Student Life Camp in Wheaton, Illinois. My life was forever changed!
The call to ministry came about a year later and I struggled with it, but the Lord's will is good and perfect! Because of that I was led to a Christian University in Michigan, where the Lord worked in my life to further drive me into His Word, Living and Written, as my foundation for teaching and preaching. From there I was led on a wonderful adventure through my single years, having the opportunity to serve as youth minister and lay teacher to various churches and ministries.
Eventually, I met my wife, Stephenie, in August of 2017 and shortly thereafter knew she was the one for me that God intended. I proposed to her Thanksgiving of 2017 and we were married July of 2018.
I am a Michigan State University Spartans fan, I cheer for the Dallas Cowboys (win or lose). I am an aspiring outdoorsmen. I love going for walks with my family. I love taking care of my lawn.
Previous Service & Education:
I previously served as senior pastor of a church in Peyton, CO. I have served as lay teacher of the young adults ministry at a few churches as well as youth minister, for a time, at a church in Mt. Morris, Michigan.
Favorite Scripture Passage:
Psalm 1:1-6 (ESV)
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Zachary Friberg
Director of Music Ministry
I am honored to serve our Aberdeen Baptist Church family through Music Ministry.
My wife, Erin, and I began attending Aberdeen together while dating in the spring of 2019, and became members of this church family that summer during our engagement. We were married here in November of 2019. What a privilege it is to raise our children among a church family so committed to exemplifying the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)!
I am the firstborn of a family of six (five boys and one more-than-able-to-hold-her-own sister), while Erin enjoyed the much less chaotic childhood of only having one younger brother. We have both called Pueblo home off and on since 2001. As a student, I pursued my musical training at Colorado State University-Pueblo, graduating with my degree in Music Performance. Since 2011, I have worked as Music Director for the Pueblo Children’s Chorale, while Erin has served our community as a Hospice Nurse for nearly ten years.
We both were raised in a church-attending, Christian homes. Erin’s grandfather was a Colorado Baptist minister, and my parents - both the children of overseas missionaries - kept my siblings and I active in our Biblical training through participation in the AWANA program. As is so true for many, though, a heritage of faith does not automatically grant faith. I struggled in my teenage years and through my 20’s to truly understand how to live out my faith beyond the head knowledge and surface-level “do’s & don’ts” that provide such uncertain footing in the storms of life. Knowing and believing are two entirely different things.
For myself, it was not until the course of my life to that point shipwrecked into divorce in 2018 that I truly began to realize what it means to surrender and believe that Christ is my “Sure and Steady Anchor in the fury of the storm”. For Erin, it was the experience of being a divorced, single mother working through nursing school that brought her back to the “Streams of mercy, never ceasing”. The church family we found here at Aberdeen was used greatly by God to bring additional healing and growth to our walks of faith so that we can proclaim together “Whatever our lot, He has taught us to say, It is well, it is well with my soul”.
Since stepping into the role of Director of Music Ministry in 2023, it has been my joy to lead our church family in singing and proclaiming the Goodness of God on a weekly basis. It is my conviction that the hymns and songs we sing in our worship service should build up and inspire us with wonder at the Character and Majesty of God Almighty, and the incredible work of His Son, our Savior Jesus. To that end, during our time of worship together through song here at Aberdeen Baptist Church, we sing hymns drawn from both the Baptist Hymnal (2008) and the new Sing! Hymnal from Crossway. We lift our voices together through congregational singing that results in the congregation taking on the role of choir as we join the song of the ages to offer praise to God Most High and to the Lamb Who Alone Is Worthy. It is our desire that “whatever [we] do, in word or deed, [we] do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus - giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)
For myself, for Erin, and for our six growing children, Aberdeen Baptist Church has been a blessed haven to experience the Restoring Love of Jesus.
Favorite Scripture Passage:
1 Timothy 1:15-17 (ESV)
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
